The Decatur Airport has been granted the status of “Gateway Airport.” This status allows for certain pre-cleared general aviation operations, including corporate aircraft, charter flights, and on-demand operations, to depart from Decatur and fly directly into Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). For aircraft to land at Reagan National Airport, flights must receive clearance at and depart from a Gateway Airport and meet the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements of the DCA Access Standard Security Program including vetted flight crews and screened passengers. Up to 48 general aviation flights are allowed into DCA per day due to the unique aviation security needs in the nation’s capitol after 9/11. Decatur Airport joins 90 other airports with gateway status including Chicago Midway, Lambert St. Louis, and Chicago O’Hare.
